2017 Shortlisted Nominee:
Employee of the Year Award –
Sgt Emma Hart is Hampshire Constabulary’s positive action coordinator. Emma’s role is to actively recruit BME officers and staff to the organisation; in times of austerity and limited recruitment Emma has had to be both creative and bold in her initiatives to attract and recruit staff. Emma’s influence has not simply been directed at recruitment as she has worked tirelessly to influence force policy and procedures to recognise diversity in the workplace. A recent example of this was when Emma successfully challenged the uniform policy which restricted piercings for uniformed officers and staff as this indirectly affected many BME colleagues due to cultural and religious reasons. In the last 3 years Emma has changed recruitment from 1.4% BME -7.5% BME and created a Positive Action programme to help all under represented candidates during the recruitment process. She was also integral in the formation of BEAM, a Staff support network for BME employees and mentored around 500 candidates at various stages of recruitment and selection.
