Diversity Champion Award for Public Sector –
Chris is the Training Management Officer in HMS Prince of Wales, the second of the UK’s newest aircraft carriers. He is also the co-chair of Compass Network which seeks to support and improve awareness of all sexual orientations and gender identities. He recognises the importance of intersectionality and works across diversity strands, such as speaking to women in life sciences and law on how his LGBT experiences can inform gender issues in male-dominated professions. He presented on the global issues of ‘LGBT at Sea’ at the International Maritime Human Rights Conference, a sector which is lagging behind in basic practices, and supports Human Rights At Sea charity, providing gratis consultancy for their seafarer diversity training package. Chris also brought the issue of ‘LGBTI & Gender in Conflict’ to the heart of the Ministry of Defence, with a guest speaker raising the pervasive and horrific treatment of LGBTI people globally, in times of uncertainty, conflict and peacebuilding. In his spare time, Chris volunteers for the LGBT-inclusive Sailing & Cruising Association.
