Sophie Hunter

2017 Shortlisted Nominee:

Employee of the Year Award –

Sophie is a volunteer Equality and Diversity Champion at the Countess of Chester Hospital and Equality and Diversity Specialist Lead at Warrington and Halton Hospitals and Wirral Community Trust. She is responsible for ensuring access to healthcare for all the local community, with a particular attention to enabling access to NHS services for groups who may face barriers, such as the homeless, people working in prostitution, carers and travellers. Sophie’s submission of her CIPD Masters Dissertation, which investigated the impact of Equality and Diversity Champions within organisations, concluded with a set of recommendations on how the NHS could better fully utilise the Champion Role. She has raised awareness of the plight of unpaid carers, introduced Carer Champions among WHH staff, and set up internal webpages to enable quick and easy referrals for staff use to ensure relatives can access support from local Carer Support Charities. Sophie is also a strong campaigner for the rights of animals and environmental concerns.
